Empowering Oklahoma's Workforce

Thank you for visiting the Green Jobs of Central Oklahoma website. The program ended operations on January 28, 2013, with the expiration of the Department of Labor grant that funded the project. The Green Jobs program operated from January 2010 to January 2013. The program provided training and placement services for individuals living in 20 targeted zip codes in the Oklahoma County area, with an emphasis on the four zip codes that make up the Northeast section of Oklahoma City.

The Department of Labor grant allowed Green Jobs to impact the community in many ways. Training was provided to individuals in the Wind Farm Assistant, Recycling and Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License industries. Green Jobs of Central Oklahoma put a strong emphasis on employability, or “‘soft skills,’” along with the technical skill development opportunities offered to program participants. Another hallmark of the program was barrier removal. Green Jobs placed a great deal of resources into mitigating or removing barriers participants faced that would keep them from attending or completing trainings that they qualified for. This often came in the form of rent payments, car repairs, eyeglasses, car tires, utility bills and more.

Green Jobs was a huge success for the participants served, their families and for our community. One part of the Green Jobs success story is the extensive knowledge gained about what it takes to effectively move the chronically unemployed, underemployed or hard-to-employ into jobs with career opportunities.
